Fair means on foul

Water that requires treatment (as opposed to rainwater) is referred to as foul water. This week we have been constructing the manholes and pipework to transport the foul water. 

To construct the manhole, first the hole is dug.

Then some concrete is placed in the bottom, and the inlet and outlet pipes are positioned. 

Next the prefabricated ring is placed on the concrete benching.

Finally the prefabricated concrete lid is placed on top of the ring. A small brick chamber is built on top of the lid to bring it to the correct level and then the cast iron manhole cover put on the top.
